Our Programs
Honor Roads offers grants to be used for educational purposes but prioritizes grants to truck driver training and certification programs to help veterans acquire the skills needed for a career in the trucking industry. This grant includes full support in helping the veteran obtain a commercial CDL-A driver’s license, and ultimately a career in the transportation industry.
The Problems We Address
Incarcerated Veterans
There are some 181,000 veterans incarcerated in prisons and jails in the United States. Veterans make up about 8 percent of all those imprisoned in federal and state prisons. There are an estimated 11,000 incarcerated veterans in Texas prisons.
Many incarcerated veterans face challenges in finding second chance employment upon release due to their criminal records, military discharge status, and lack of marketable skills.
Homeless Veterans
The data showed that on a single night in January 2023, there were 35,574 Veterans who experienced homelessness in the U.S. This reflects a 7.4% increase over the prior year. Homeless veterans often struggle to access education and job training programs due to their transient lifestyles and lack of resources.
Active Duty Discharged Veterans
In 2021, there were an estimated 16 million veterans in the United States. Each year, approximately 200,000 Service members leave the military and must reorient their lives. This includes fundamentals like their employment and education, finances, housing, health, and even relationships.
